android - Is wifi/bluetooth Triangulation(not trilateration) using a mobile device possible? -


well triangulation need have direction device receiving signal.we can calculate angle of arrival calculating angle requires array of receivers. cell phone capable of calculating angle of arrival? asking because have came across terms wifi/ble triangulation, calculating position triangulation etc they're referring trilateration in of cases. know how trilateration works mobile , details don't think triangulation possible. , if possible, how possible , 1 (triangulation or trilateration) expected give better result if use ibeacons approximate positions?

lot of people misleading terms pointed out. triangulation not possible standard ble beacons or wifi (i mean without modify standard ble 4.0 or 4.1 , wifi) right because standard doesn't report useful information phase (if have phase , array of directional antennas powered on 1 per time @ predetermined frequency can use algorithms music , deal angles) have rssi , tx power @ 1 meter(if it's ibeacon) information can estimate distance imprecise , fluctuate rapidly on time because of multipath , diffraction. in nextome have invented algorithm mitigate multipath fading causes signal bounce , achieve high accuracy indoor positioning of 1 meter without fingerprinting. no 1 has tested triangulation standard ibeacons right trilateration. start looking @ least square approximation solve trilateration problems, don't expect big results without filtering out noise.
