i planning install virtualbox try out newer operating systems , tools.

- does virtualbox consume lot of resources , slow down system.
- is installation heavy weight.
- is easy uninstall.
- does running virtual pc (windows 8.1) on windows7 (host) pc has issues?
- how performance of virtual os (windows 8.1 in case) compared dual boot setup?
- are there free better options virtualbox?
memory not issue able spare atleast 30gb virtual box installation.
really appreciate inputs.
here's gist:
pro's:
- not heavy install(102mb installer)
- easy setup
- easy administer
- supports lots of os's, through windows 10 (10 slow)
- light performance hit modern hardware
- easy uninstall
cons:
- company's computer (is okay them?)
- installs network adapter (needs admin privilege)
- some performance hit (depends on hardware)
on athlon phenom ii x4 (made in 2011), 8gb of ram , 2 hdd's in raid, radeon card, every os i've tried runs smooth, except windows 10. you'll have turn down (or off) translucent window borders , backgrounds, maybe, that's it.
windows 7 , 8 smooth butter, transparency off. if have new core i7 machine buckets of ram, shouldn't have problem.
linux, freebsd, xp, dos , win3 run in there no problems.
windows 8.1 guest, under windows 7 host worked fine. possibly turn few bells , whistles off, should work fine. use bridged connection, vm has own ip address on lan. windows 10 slow @ point. i'm sure they'll address soon.
hope helps.
