multicast - How To Determine How I'm Using IP Multicasting? -


it's understanding ip multicasting works receivers joining ip multicast groups igmp messages, senders sending addresses, , routers addressed in way duplicating message , sending receivers in group.

i've never elected join multicast group. software might use join group on behalf? commonly-used programs send multicast addresses on behalf? tools, command-line tools, expose information? similar ipcs provides shared memory, ps provides processes, etc. i'm interested in linux or osx environments.

nb there no duplication. if router has members inside, propagates datagram, once, on inside lan.
